What to bring:

-One or two boards, with ding repair kits.  Two board maximum per person.

-Waterproof sunblock (SPF 30 or higher)

-Rash guard (some may want a wetsuit top in the winter)

-Extra wax, fins, and spare leash.

-Two pairs of boardshorts, comfortable walking shoes, and slippers (Hawaiian for flip-flops)

-Conditioning and flexiblilty is important.  You will be doing a lot of paddling.
Yoga and pre-training, like long distance paddling are helpful.

What is the best time of year for consistent waves?

The North Shore goes off between October and March, and the South shore starts firing from April to September.  Oahu generally has at least head high waves year round.

What kind of board should I bring?

It depends on what time of year you come, and your surfing ablility.  Whatever you are comfortable with should work.  Larger surf may require a more narrow board with a little more rocker. (a gun)

What is Local Scale?

Most of the
surf report links on our home page are displayed by the traditional Hawaiian scale, measuring from the back of the wave.  This is about half the size of the actual wave face height.

How is the water temperature?

It is in the mid seventies during the winter, a rashguard is all you will need, but some may choose to wear a 3mil wetsuit top.  During the summer, boardshorts are all that is needed, with temps from the high seventies to low eighties.

What kind of vehicles do the guides drive?

The vehicle of choice is the minivan, for its obvious practicality, but some guides drive SUV's.

Will my cell phone get reception on Oahu?

The majority of cell phones get reception island wide.  But it is still a good idea to check with your provider.
